Schools on Facebook
We’ve had a lot of requests for examples of schools with Facebook fan pages. Thanks to the hard work of our intern, Brian, we now have a great resource for anyone looking for school pages.
If you visit edSocialMedia’s Facebook page you will find a list of 401 independent school fan pages from across the country that we have added as favorites. The list is pretty extensive but by no means exhaustive. Let us know what we’ve missed or when you see a new one pop up.
In addition, we have started a feature called “Page of the Week” where we highlight an independent school Facebook page and discuss what makes it work. Look for the “Page of the Week” tab on our Facebook page to check it out.
Oh, and while you’re there be sure to become a fan!

I didn’t see our school listed on your facebook page. thanks.

Thanks for letting us know, Mary. You’re there now!
Great feature — Page of the Week. How about a Twitter page with all the independent schools on twitter?
Steve,
Didn’t see us on the list of schools.
New secondary school… Beginning year three this year… Essentially, fan page is for admissions and current families now… Will have to wait until June 2011 for first alumni!
Lorrie Jackson wrote about us on your site in May.

Cheers!
Betsye – great idea about schools on Twitter. Turns out that Demetri Orlando (@Demetri) maintains a Twitter account that feeds IS Twitter-ers: – so that it a good place to start. Thanks to @traviswarren for reminding me about that resource.
Thanks for including Park Tudor on this list! This list is an excellent resource. Thank you for compiling it!
Interesting way Calvert School added online catalog to their facebook page — page of the month. Do you know if they used Scene7 for the application. I tried to contact them, but received no response.
Ohio Hi-Point Career Center in Bellefontaine, OH, a career-technical school district, utilizes Facebook. We use a profile page, though, not a fan page. http://facebook.com/ohiohipoint
Thanks for being such a resource! Fairmont Schools in Orange County, CA is new to social media. We’re at http://www.facebook.com/FairmontSchools and also have pages for each of our 6 campuses. Thank you for all you are doing.

I am a parent at an independent school, and I am interested in how the school could continue to grow its social media presence. However, I am concerned about pictures of young children being even more visible out there in cyberspace. Of course, our website has pictures of some of our students on there. I’m curious how other people view this concern?
Steve,
I didn’t see us on the list of schools.
We are a Quaker PK – 12 day and boarding school located just outside of Washington DC.
Thanks!
