Social Media Bootcamp

The edSocialMedia bootcamp offers a practical application of social media tools in a school environment and provides a hands-on introduction to a variety of social media channels. As a member of a team, participants will create and share content through edSocialMedia’ s practice lab site and other social media channels, such as WordPress, YouTube, Twitter, Flickr, Facebook, etc.

This particular event is in coordination with The Strategic Marketing & Advancement Institute in Annapolis, MD on Nov. 14 & 15. A special rate of $199 is available for Strategic Marketing & Advancement Institute participants.

Who’s invited? K-12 or higher-ed administrators and staff in Admissions, Marketing, Communications, External-affairs, Advancement, Alumni/Development, or teachers. Any and all education-based professionals are welcome.

Workshop Format

The workshop provides an in-depth introduction to social media for school leaders and administrators, complete with an opportunity to create and share content through edSocialMedia’s practice lab site (http://lab.edsocialmedia.com) and other social media channels such as YouTube, Twitter, Flickr, etc.

By the end of the workshop, each team will:

• Strategically tweet links and images in Twitter: generate a minimum of 10 tweets throughout the day, including the workshop’s hashtag (#edsocialmedia) and at least one link, one photo and one @ mention

• Write two, well-crafted blog entries: create two blog posts that use proper tagging and categorization

• Explore movie editing: produce and post a brief video on YouTube or Vimeo

• Develop story ideas for engaging social media content: examine and analyze best practices for community engagement in schools

Requirements

Every workshop participant must have a computer or tablet with wireless network connectivity. Participants should also bring a useable smartphone, camera or camcorder to supplement their efforts. Charger cords are also highly recommended.

Cost

A special rate of $199 for the workshop is available for Strategic Marketing & Advancement Institute participants. $249 is the full price for registration.

The cost of registration includes registration, continental breakfast and mid-morning refreshments.

Accommodations and parking

For an additional cost, participants who would like to stay overnight on Thursday, Nov. 15, can add on a special hotel rate for $129 plus taxes and fees.  Be sure to make a reservation by October 5, 2012 to ensure pricing and availability. Reservations will be made by individuals calling the Hotel directly at 800-847-8882. Individuals must identify themselves as with “edSocialMedia” at the time the reservation is made in order to receive the special group rate.

edSocialMedia Trainer

Madeline Senkosky is the Community Manager for edSocialMedia. She facilitates and organizes edSocialMedia’s events and presence, including the social media channels. Prior to working for ESM, she worked as the Director of Publications at Stratton Mountain School, a ski and snowboard academy in southern Vermont. At SMS, she guided and managed the school’s communication outreach. Additionally, she designed and instructed a Digital Media curriculum that taught students new media skills, such as creation of a personalized online portfolio. Madeline graduated from the University of Missouri Journalism School.
